Conference Announcement:
Missale Romanum
The 2009 annual conference of the Society
for Catholic Liturgy will take place at the St Cecilia
Cathedral in Omaha, Nebraska, from 29 January to 1 February 2009.
This is a change from the past meeting dates of September.
The change means that the society will not hold a general
conference during the 2008 calendar year.
Registration forms and conference information
will be posted on this site and mailed to members of the
Society for Catholic Liturgy when they become available.
Call for Papers 2009
The

2007 Conference a Success
Held at the Pontifical College Josephinum in
Columbus, Ohio, from 20-23 September, the 2007 annual
conference was a great success. With over 100 people
attending - including pastors, seminarians, scholars,
religious, and interested laity - it boasted the largest
attendance of any of the Society's conferences to date. The
conference was dedicated to Pope
Benedict XVI and the Sacred Liturgy. Dr Alcuin
Reid delivered the keynote address, and in the closing
plenary address Msgr Michael Magee discussed "Three Windows
into the Mind of Benedict XVI on the Liturgy," based on his
experiences working with the Congregation for Divine
Worship. Sixteen speakers presented scholarly papers in
"track I" sessions, while six speakers led the more
practical "track II" sessions. Conference participants
prayed the divine office and the Mass together, and also
enjoyed a sacred music concert by the Magpie Consort. Click

annual conference.
Where is Antiphon?
Antiphon is a bit behind its
publication schedule. The three issues for number 11 (2007)
will be mailed in the first half of 2008. The editorial team
thanks you for your patience.

Statement of Principles
Approved
The process of revising the General
Philosophy of the Society for Catholic Liturgy began at a
meeting of the Board of Directors in 2002. Certain
statements in the General Philosophy had to be changed in
light of Liturgiam authenticam (28 March 2001). The
Board and a sub-committee dedicated to drafting the revision
produced a text that was mailed to all the members and
discussed at the September 2005 business meeting. Based on
comments received, final adjustments were made to the
phrasing of the principles and the statement was mailed to
the members for a vote in October 2005. The new
Statement of Principles
(SP) was approved by a 95% majority and was adopted on 1
December 2005. For further discussion, see the
commentary on the Statement of Principles by Fr Timothy
V. Vaverek.
SCL Opens to Associate
Members
In order to diversify its membership and
broaden its outreach, the Society for Catholic Liturgy has
opened up to associate members. Associate members, like full
members, must ascribe to the Society's
Statement of Principles
and have the written recommendation of a current member.
Unlike full members, associate members need not be scholars
with terminal degrees or professionals with a comparable
level of expertise. Thus the Society and its activities are
open to many people already deeply interested and engaged in
liturgical matters, but who until now have not met the
requirements for full membership. Application forms for both
associate members and full members are available on the
Membership page of this site.
2005 Conference a
Success
Members and guests of the Society enjoyed a
stimulating conference at the Mary Immaculate Center of
Northampton, Pennsylvania, from Thursday September 15th to
Sunday the 18th, 2005. The conference report will be
available on this site.
